The majority of Belarusian cargo exports in 2024 were carried out by railway transport. Some indicators characterizing this type of economic activity were presented for the first three quarters of 2024 on our resource. As updated and more complete information on various exporters, cargo types, and/or recipients becomes available and processed, we present data on Belarusian Railway transportation results for 2024.
I. Export of products from JSC “Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant” (MZKT) from Belarus for Russian defence industry enterprises in 2024 — updated data.
In the previous publication dedicated to the export of Belarusian goods to Russia for the first 9 months of 2024, a separate focus was placed on a supplier such as JSC “Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant” (MZKT). This supplier is among the largest exporters of Belarusian products.
In this material, we will supplement information on MZKT supplies to Russia for the missing period — Q4 2024.
Recall that for the first 9 months of 2024, MZKT exported its products to Russia by railway transport exclusively to the domestic market (mainly to enterprises of the Russian defence complex) in the volume of 200 railcars with wheeled vehicles and components.
Similar export trends for MZKT continued in the last quarter of 2024. At the same time, the relative volume of transportation during this period significantly increased.
Thus, during the first three quarters, the average monthly export volume was about 22 railcars. In the fourth quarter of 2024, this figure rose to 35 railcars.
Thus, for Q4 2024, MZKT supplied to Russia a total of 106 railcars with its products. As a result, the total volume of supplies for 2024 amounted to 306 railcars.
Below is information on volume indicators, broken down by cargo recipients, type of rolling stock, and destination stations for Q4 2024, as well as summarized data for the entire year 2024.
The final volume distribution by type of dispatched cargo (in accordance with the Unified Tariff and Statistical Nomenclature of Goods – ETSNG) for 2024 is as follows:
- Trucks, not otherwise specified (ETSNG code 381072) – 219 railcars.
- Transport equipment, not otherwise specified (ETSNG code 391303) – 31 railcars.
- Automobile trailers (ETSNG code 381231) – 29 railcars.
- Railway cars, transported on their own axles, not otherwise specified (ETSNG code 421034) – 27 railcars.
The final volume distribution by type of rolling stock in which the enterprise's products were exported for 2024 is as follows:
- For Q4:
– Flatcars (PL) – 97 units.
– Boxcars (KR) – 9 units. - In total for 2024:

Note: All volume data presented in this section refers only to the number of railcars. This is due to the specifics of transporting this type of equipment by railway transport, as one unit (wheeled tractor) may occupy several flatcars depending on the model, modification, and other characteristics.
II. Export of ammunition and other armaments from Belarus to Russian military units and storage arsenals in 2024 — updated data.
In addition to the information on MZKT product exports, we also present data on military cargo supplies from Belarus to Russia. Some volumes of these types of cargo supplies were provided in our earlier material.
In total, for 2024, supplies in volume terms amounted to 192 railcars.
Note: The presented information on the volumes of exported military cargo is provided in terms of the number of transported railcars due to significant differences in the mass of supplied ammunition, weapons, and means of destruction, as well as the lack of sufficiently accurate information on the loading (its density) of railcars depending on their type.
The entire specified volume of exported military cargo was divided into categories: explosives (missile armaments for air defence systems in packaging containers, artillery ammunition, and other explosives) — EM, as well as railcars for escorts (persons accompanying, guarding, and servicing cargo en route) and other cargo.
The final volume distribution by type of dispatched cargo (in accordance with the Unified Tariff and Statistical Nomenclature of Goods – ETSNG) for 2024 is as follows:
- Explosive materials (ETSNG code 693142) – 117 railcars.
- Other cargo, not otherwise specified (ETSNG code 693087) – 66 railcars.
- Railcars for escorts (ETSNG code 421161) – 9 railcars.
The final volume distribution by type of rolling stock in which military cargo was dispatched from Belarus to Russia for 2024 is as follows:
- Gondola cars (PV) – 94 units.
- Railway flatcars (PL) – 66 units.
- Boxcars (KR) – 32 units.
The main (final) recipients of this category of Belarusian cargo in Russia in 2024 were the following military units and armament storage arsenals:
- Military unit 55443-114-GS (23rd Arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Russia, Staraya Toropa, Russia) – 99 railcars;
- Military unit 55443-50 (8th Arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Russia, also known as military unit 41686, Rybinsk, Russia) – 70 railcars;
- Military unit 57229-40 (68th Arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Russia, Mozdok, Russia) – 16 railcars;
- Military unit 54169-VD (51st Arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Russia, also known as military unit 11785, Kirzhach, Russia) – 7 railcars.

– to Staraya Toropa station (Oktyabrskaya Railway) from the 1562nd Separate Anti-Aircraft Repair and Technical Base of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus (military unit 64608) addressed to the 23rd Arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Russia, 94 gondola cars and 5 boxcars with cargo: “Explosive materials” were dispatched;
– to Lukovsky station (North Caucasus Railway) from the 1562nd Separate Anti-Aircraft Repair and Technical Base of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus (military unit 64608) addressed to military unit 57229-40, 4 boxcars with cargo: “Explosive materials” were dispatched.
- From Stolbtsy station (Baranovichi Division of Belarusian Railway – NOD-2):
– to Rybinsk-Tovarny station (Northern Railway) from the 25th Arsenal of Missile and Artillery Armaments (military unit 25819) addressed to military unit 55443-50, 66 flatcars with cargo: “Other cargo, not otherwise specified” and 4 boxcars as “Railcars for escorts” were dispatched.
III. Export of military cargo to third countries
In addition to the information on the volumes of military cargo exported from Belarus to Russia, we provide information on some supplies of such products that occurred for further re-export to so-called “third countries” through a Russian seaport.
The volumes of such supplies for 2024, for which we have been able to reliably establish data to date, amounted to 21 railcars.
In all episodes of these export shipments, deliveries were made to Bronka (exp.) station of the Oktyabrskaya Railway, which is one of the port stations in the northwestern region of Russia.
The recipient of the cargo was LLC “Fenix” (Bronka port), after which the cargo was transshipped to a sea vessel for subsequent shipment to a “third country.”
The Belarusian company LLC “Biznesinvest Garant” acted as the freight forwarder, and the sender of the cargo was the State Military-Industrial Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
